Hi
I was lucky enough to have a wire to the old lamp already in place. I did look at putting in 2 switches but decided to only wire the main lamp using the existing wire. This goes down between the front windows via some small trunking and around the side to the toilet cupboard where the fuse box is.

The old lamp was attached through a hole in the roof directly into the cabin (about 2cm wide) so just used this. The rubber washers provide good water proofing, one on top, the other inside the cabin. If you go this route I would suggest getting some help else it's quite frustrating to screw the bolt in whist supporting the weight of the lamp.

I will take some photos when I get a chance to go down to the boat but the river is a bit wild at the moment.

Hope this helps you a little. Always happy to help.

I bought one of these lamps and basically they are good. the only criticism I have is the led lamp wiring is not too good. I wired the main lamp to the existing switch and installed another cable to take the leds to a separate switch. At switch on I blew the fuses. When I opened the lamp I found the cables went through a very ragged hole cut into the reflector, which had cut into the thin supply wire. So if the wires are moved at all during installation, the very thin wire can be damaged. So I replaced that wire with a heavier cable and stuffed a grommet through the reflector hole to maintain the integrity of the wiring. All works ok now but please be aware that this could happen on other units.

Re Switch for lamp. A single 3 position rocker switch should suffice. On-Off-On format avilable from a comercial vehicle parts supplier. about £11 if memory serves last time I got one for a solonoid selector on an 8 ton fork truck. Delco do a neat one. 12v power to the centre pin, swictched pos. one to each side for light selection.
Alternatives may be available from car parts dealers or Maplins.

Well it's been about a year since I started my restoration of Quo Vadis and feels like it will never end. Went down to the hard standing today for the first time in a few months. Glad I had her taken out as the themes is flooded with a few poor boats looking a bit stranded.

Looks like all the work spent last winter has survived the year and still looking good. Just need to finish all the intended jobs and fix a few probs and she is god to go again.

Lifed the floor and to my surprise there wasn't much water, not like last time. Biggest mistake was to get cheap seat post holders as they didn't last and cracked. Going to look at something a bit better this time.

Got some work to do on the inside to smarten up and again hope to post as many photos of progress.

Oh, it's good to be back.

Happy new year all. Dave.

Got down to the boat today and after a long wait finally got the courage to lift the old carpet up from inside the cabin. Didn't really know what to expect under there but it was fine.

. .

Got the new carpet cut using the old as templates and will hopefully fit tomorrow (Depending on the hangover expected)

I also built a new hatch. The problem with the original one was it was difficult to store when not needed on the doorway, also putting things on to when cursing was an issue. My solution was to make one that folds up, creating a shelf (for coffee or beer depending on time of day)but also matches the look of the new woodwork. Still need to be finished but some pics of progress alongside the original.

. .

More to follow tomorrow.

Happy New Year. Dave

Finishing off a few things before moving onto the deck.
I wanted to do something a bit nicer with the rear storage holes. Originally there were doors (Hinged flaps) but I didn't really like these. They covered up the better looking rounded holes. So I removed them but left it looking a bit shabby.

I found some cladding wood in Wickes http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/128460 which was handy as I could fit it through the holes saving me the time of taking all the benches out to fit.

My first attempt was to wood stain and varnish, did this but didn't like. Too many clashes of wood. Took home, sanded down and painted white. I think it's much better.
.

Going to put a rubber rim around the rounded hole for protection and do the same in the back cubby holes but looking much better.

Today I put the new carpet down. Only the sides have been properly attached using double sided carpet tape and I need to trim the larger bit for a better fit. You can just see on the right hand side it's rippling a little.

Another job I started was to remove the deck paint. A bit of a messy job but the first pass had taken the top surface off. A few more weeks before it's ready for repainting.
