Stereo's with a remote are very handy for cutting volume as you head into a lock when single handing or just being lazy like me, and infra-red signals are easily bounced around corners by a well placed mirror (the stick on wide angle mirrors for cars are great). A stereo mounted out of sight in the cabin is less likely to attract a break-in.

I put the stereo just inside the cabin door as you can see in the photo. This was mainly to be accessible for turning down the volume when going into locks like df mentioned, but also inside and secure when moored up.
It was previously under the helm wheel but found I would have to put my head down to change the station or tracks. Not good when been in control of the boat.

The previous owner wired in a kill switch so when sleeping in the cabin they could flick the switch and turn off all the power so not to get out of bed. Keeping that feature.
I have 3 speakers widred up. 2 up at the helm in the side pannels. I had to get some risers due to the depth available but these work well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-6-5-18MM-ROUND-OVAL-MDF-MOUNTING-STEREO-SPEAKER-SPACER-ADAPTOR-RING-/180792812957?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2a1817659d#ht_1413wt_1082
The 3rd speaker in inside the cabin at floor level, in the bed base. I wired in today and all works. I used normal speaker cable but for the power have used Halfords 17amp wire. Maybe a bit too much as the power cable that came with the stereo looks more like 7amp. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_199467_langId_-1_categoryId_255229
Everything is coming off 1 battery but hope to replace this with 2 leisure batteries one day but cost is preventing this right now as it's best to match the make and life of batteries.
I only use the stereo whist cruising but last year I did 10 days and watched TV every night for a couple of hours and had no problems starting the engine next day on 1 battery.
Another great deal I came across was this lamp. It has 2 settings with main lamp and a second led angle ring. Not sure how bright it is but could see it reflecting of the other boats in the sun today so can't be bad. I had to drill out the old fitting but the new one is simple to fix and water proof. For £14 (free P&P) it's great. Nice and shiny and a lovely finish to the boat. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005BR2MB2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

Feel the end is close but I know deep down it never ends.

Hi Dave An absolutely beautiful job. You have achieved more in a short space of time than I have over ages. I love all the little details you've concentrated on. A real pleasure to see.

It was only £14 with free P&P, even turned up within 48hours. To top it off I had a £6 Amazon voucher for completing a online Sky survey so total was £8. Don't be put off by the low cost, it is actually very good quality. Link to the Amazon page http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005BR2MB2/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

Last day working on land today and think I made it :-) Next time I see the boat she will be on the water and ready for showing off the new fit out.
Today I had to remove the old graphics and applied new ones (Even if they were wrong). I used vinyl remover to remove the old graphics but this only took the top layer off and left most the glue behind. A quick rub down with some wire wool and cleaner soon removed with no trace.
.
Once all names were removed I applied the new ones. They were supplied spelt incorrectly but cut out the wrong letters and will get replacements sent to put on later.
I also put a 2" blue stripe around the hull and think it helps break up the amount of white.
. Before
Still quite a bit to to but will carry on throughout the year. |

Been away for a while on holiday but coming back to QuoVadis back in the water was a softener for my holidays ending.
I arrived at the yard and looked over the Thames to see her all shiny and clean (still with the wrong name on the side but have replacements now). But a proud boat owner I was.
The engin has had a service with new spark plugs, oil and tiller and started first time. Setting off the dark clouds arrived and it poured down, but still great to be back on the water.
Loads to fix up but all that might have to wait until next winter.
Dave.

What an excellent and informative topic this is Dave, you have made a wonderful job on your boat and I am really liking the wood-work. I will be starting my Norman 22 restoration in May and I have already jotted down your hints, tips and links that you have provided.
Just one question for you, where can I get 2 Norman badges from for my boat ?
Many Thanks, Dan.

Thanks Dan, I had lots of fun doing mine as I'm sure you will.
I got my badges from Adi from this site. Put badges in the search and he will be in most posts regarding badges. Even better, I'm sure he will reply to this topic.
Hope he can help you out.
I painted mine with Humbrol model paint.
