Help needed please. My mate has Bought a Senior 20' blind on E bay. Now seen it and wished he hadn't lol. Few things he needs to know, 1 how do you tell a 1.5 from a 1.8 BMC diesel. 2 it has a red cylinder with Cleghorn stamped on it near the Jabsco water pump ?. Finally any info dims and etc for Fuel tank capacity, economy and the outdrive please. The internet is a bit sparse for this model. Regards Phil.

Sorry mate , my mate is a bit of a dinosaur web wise. That's why i am asking for him. It was in a marina at Barrow on Soar iv'e been told and £1500 won the bid. Buy in haste repent at your leisure springs to mind. I have tried looking for a similar boat but only get the 23'widebeams coming up. Regards Phil.

Unlikely to be a 1.8 on a 20, far more likely to be a 1500 coupled to an Enfield 130 leg. Senior always installed Enfield legs, probably because they were almost local. I'm surprised it has a BMC diesel, presumably Thornycroft marinised? Senior used to favour Perkins 4.107M's, at least in their 26 and 31 foot boats.
I didn't know Senior did a 20ft, I thought their bottom end was a 26? Sure it's not a Seamaster Cub 20ft?
Fuel tank - tell him to measure it and do a bit of simple math. One cubic foot = 6.2284 gallons.
Cleghorn Waring made pumps - not sure if they own or are owned by Jabsco. They also made foghorns so the cylinder might be propellant for a horn, or possibly part of an engine room fire-suppression system - guessing here.
Needs pics really.

Love this site for the answers you get. Annoyed with my mate for giving me duff info. The boat is a Senior 23 with a BMC diesel. Senior did do a 20' but only made a few with outboards only + its the only boat they did at 6'10 inches wide. My mate thought he'd got a narrow beam, when i asked him to measure the bleeding width he come back with 96 inches internally. Thanks for your expertise. You will be needed, (constantly)lol. BTW my mate is 73 and an ex special forces bootnik, no fool but a bit time warped.

Yeah, we need pics but I'm guessing that the cylinder near the pump is a water pressure vessel/accumulator.
Buying blind off ebay is hardcore. That price might be a bargain or might just be the start of the story! |

The Senior 23 is a very tidy looking boat, Almost identical to the Eastwood. May not be the disaster you are fearing Phil!

Thanks everyone . Confusion was caused by the cabin looking smaller than the cabin plan of a Senior 23.Seems they did a fishing version with a bigger cockpit , meaning a smaller cabin. Pictures when it arrives nearer home although might have to do em via Tev and e mail.

Senior 23's ARE Eastwood 24's - same hull and superstructure, only the cabin windows are different - the central bar being vertical on the Senior and inclined on the Eastwood.
Jones on the Gt Ouse at Huntingdon will tell you that Senior moulded the hull later made popular as the Eastwood 24 at Eastwood Yacht Co at Walton on Thames - something I did not know before. The Boatyard is still there at Walton on Thames but they sell up-market-priced Merry Fisher boats now and the brilliant Chandlery has gone. The other boat no longer sold or made there is the lovely little Teal cruiser range.
The Marina is now moorings only at inflated prices so all in all a loss to the boating world.
