Hi Everyone
We have just bought a 1969 Mk1 Norman 23 from some very nice people who know very little about the boat they have used for 3 years. Can anyone tell me how to find out what engine and leg I have? Also how to raise and lower the leg ( i have done it by hand but wondered if there was a mechanical way) and how to lock it in the down position?

A piccie of both engine and leg would help lots, enfield 130's were a popular option often coupled to a 1500 bmc or perkins 4107/4108 but ford petrols were sometimes used, enfield were originally made by perkins as a way to sell more engines to boat builders.

Ford x-flow then, could be 1100/1300/1600 but I can't remember the block markings (I seem to recall 711M being 1600),probably the enfield 130 leg then.
The lift by swiveling sideways with a wormwheel on the inside operated by a long handle with a pin through the end that locates in a tapered socket, they are quite oftem took off and replaced by a plain ring due to lack of space.
You can lift straight up from outside as long as it's not in reverse gear, there is a sprung loaded catch that locates over a horizontal pin between leg and boat, when you go into reverse a pin comes out of the leg and stops the catch lifting, they are quite bad for wearing and jumping up when reversing hard.
They shouldn't be locked down when in forward or neutral in case you hit a submerged object.
