Do you know Danny that boat lacks something that i just cant put my finger on hehe. All i can say they must have Balls the size of mountains to go to sea in that i admire them for the sheer stupidity and guts.

Darwin's theory worked well till the RNLI came along and messed it up!

Good to see how you tackled the hull. Ive a 18' which has had a few paint jobs, some of which I undid at the weekend powerwashing a years worth of landlubber moss and crud off after not making it as far as the water last year.
This year I will also mostly be living with the fact there are numerous leaks into the cabin and the windows are 3/4 moss whilst jotting an increasingly unrealistic todo list for the winter....
Take it a belt sander is the way to go? Couldnt see what you were using in the pics?

Hi Nowen
well so far i used brass wired brush to get rid of the algea, then a grinder with 80 grip flap disks, 50 grit Orbital sander (Steady as she goes) and 100 grit on a flat sander. i had to use heavy duty grits due to the thickness of the paint coatings. I also use Ally oxide paper as it does not clog up.

Well been a week or so since i did an update, This is progress so far the old inboard timbers are gone as i am returning her to an outboard so we have space, my fiberglass kit is winging its way to me so i can start filling holes. I have to rig up a cover this weekend to cover the boat as she is parked under a silver birch tree and as you can imagine my battle with the catkins of off of it are driving me mad. Anyway changing the subject slightly i joined a face book page about the Broads, whilst scrolling down the page i came across a link to the broads boats register page, a few clicks and hey presto some info on my boat http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Details&BoatHistory=41990&BoatId=27519
Im nipping out to make a note of her previous number and name which came to light when i sanded her down to see if i can get anymore info.
My point is if your boat came from Norfolk and you want to try and find out something about the above link would be a good start.
For now i will say cheerio and more pics at the weekend weather permitting.

That reg looks a bit like a broads number.

Sadly nothing much found, no record on the Broads, although DF is right it does look like a broads reg. Perhaps from a long time ago.
I did find this though.... but not likely to be the right boat..

| To the person with Little Fish I sold a Callumcraft the same design as yours to someone in around 1988 who I believe was taking it to Garstang at that time it had a white hull and flybridge roof and yellow cabin and was called Shoestring it was a very smart little boat at that time I bought it as a restoration project from Davidsons at Sawley in around 1986 wonder if its the same boat |

Hi Deano
Further investigation reveals that the letter "D"was the registration letter for 1969 the year the boat was born, the number "N369" (Last reg number) was for the years 1990-91, So with this in mind my boat had the Reg D452 IMPULSE III until renaming around 1990 as WATERRAT N369 after that she goes off the radar. It is my plan to take her back to the broads where she came from and register her with the name "Celestial Dawn" with a new broads number after i complete her refit.

Well its not been a great week off, my intention to crack on has been thwarted by the damn weather again,This morning the sun was splitting the stones, the weather forecast said good weather until tea time. So with this info in mind i got my filler out and started hoping to get a fair bit done, however after an hour up pops the showers, so a hasty cover with an old tarp to keep the wet filler dry has called it a day to my work.
Fed up is an understatement.

Hi Merlin
The hull looks better in the pics than up close, i did manage to get some holes filled, but she needs more sanding yet.
Now to get off the years of paint i used a 80 grit pad on a grinder and i have gone down in places to a cream coloured coat would this be the gel Coat if so i may need to gel coat her again.
