Hi Dave,
I'm new here too, they seem a friendly bunch. Wish someone gave me a boat!
There's an "Insert Image" button on the toolbar when you're posting...

You'll need to upload your images to an image sharing site such as xomf.com or imgur.com, then paste the link to the image between the tags that are inserted when you click the insert image button. Am I making sense? Probably not.
I'm about to start restore my first boat, so keep the pics coming, I need ideas to pinch!
All the best,
Dan

Ok some pics from where she came from, the one on the trailer is back at my place after it traveling up from Norfolk. As you can see she is in a poor state, however i have done a fair bit of work on her last weekend cleaning out the crud and removing the soaking wet flotation foam, cutting out the cabin seating so i can get to the hull etc.

| Nice little project, I like the quirky retro look of the 17. Front windows are the hardest thing to replace or source due to the shape. |

Hi Dave of lincolnshire, thank you for not being Malc of lincolnshire.(when you meet him you'll know why, the beast of bardney) Welcome to the nuthouse, I always sort of liked the look of the old 17's but can't help thinking they look like the ice cream van of the boating world, especially with the original cockpit roof and screen.

Thx guys for the welcome and all the pics of other Normans/callumcraft there is lots of inspiration there for how mine will look when done, fittings, trims & Interiors etc. I used to upgrade old caravans in the past for a hobby and as i see it this should not be to dissimilar however i am hoping that the forum will be a source of info when i come upon marine issues.

Hi all been hard at it the last couple of weekends, last weekend i cleared all the rubbish out cut out the fibre glass seating in the cabin, the old sink, what was left of the timber cabin wall, RHS fibre glass seat on deck and lastly the soaked flotation foam. To finish i used a high pressure washer to strip off the olds flaking paint and put a large hole in the hull to drain away the stagnant water that was in the bottom. This weekend i moved her to her working position at the top of the garden stabilized her and then started with 40 grit grinder, removing old fibre glass lips, old paint & bad repairs. I has a good go at her today and she looks much cleaner. Mind you i looked like a ghost when i finished today on account of all the dust and i can also tell you i feel my age today for sure. Weather permitting i will be back at it tomorrow as i have a week off work, i aim to remove the damaged timber on the sides all the rest of the chrome cleats and hooks.

Well the ole girl is coming on a pace, i decided to have a crack at the years of paint on the outside especially the paint on the waterline, God it was thick but found some bad repairs which i will deal with later and a name. The current name was "Water Rat N369" but on the port side i found what i think is "empire 111" hard to read though. Below is some more pics.

Today its throwing it down so no boat work for a few days, The weather is set to be a bit rubbish and im back to work next week humph!!

Well the Easter weekend is nearly upon us and with a bit of luck i will get at least a couple of days sanding done. After much thinking i have come up with a name for her as "water rat" i think is not a suitable name. I wanted to have my wife's name in there somewhere and i have a love for Astronomy so with this in mind my Norman will now be known as "Celestial Dawn" after the two loves of my life.

Well another Bank holiday has passed and despite the cool weather progress resumed apace, my challenge this time was to get all the old layers of paint and crud off the bottom of the boat. So far the stern ,one side and bow have been sanded i have one side left to do and the remainder of the deck. After three very dusty days the hull is done for now and she is sitting on the trailer ready for me to start sorting all the holes with fiberglass at the end of the month. Once that is done i intend to start fitting the walls to the cabin and glass them too.
Below are pics of where we are so far

Tools used wire brush, Sander 50 grit 80 grit, grinder 100 grit
