What do you want mate, year, parts mpg etc. If you enter Honda bf9.9 parts manual on google look for boat -info. You can download for free a 146 page manual. An owners manual is just as easy, google Honda bf9.9a and get a free download. Same for year, enter your no details and it will direct you to the details. For example mine is Honda bf 15a BAAL 1211271- result long shaft Honda built between 1997-2001.

Bit more info mate. It is hard to get the exact build date but as you can see yours was very near to mine. Before 97 yours was called a bf100 but the Yanks which were the main market raised the import duty on any foreign outboard over 10 Hp. Honda renamed it a 9.9 put a 6 amp charger on it and swept the board. The rest followed.

A bit quiet innit, must all be in the pub. A few might think that year of manufacture 97-01 is a bit vague but i will explain why the manufacturers do it. In 1997 i started work on the M5 Avonmouth Bridge upgrade in Bristol. Alongside our Yard was a 35 acre site full of brand new import vehicles. In the 5yrs i worked there we got to know the lads who were employed to drive the cars off the car ships. These boats could carry up to 6000 cars depending on make etc. An average ship would off load 3 write offs and a few dozen damaged in transit. The rest could be in the field for 2, 3, 4 yrs and could still be sold as brand new. So for the maker to narrow the build date to a week or a month would be a bad move.

you just made me feel old mate, I did some steelwork on that bridge in '77! I wanted the info because I was getting a new impeller kit and I was told there were 2 different types for my engine (key/slot, or a flat on the shaft and impeller)and they didn't know which would fit mine. I wanted to do the job in a day, so I took pot luck with the slotted one and got lucky. Got it done by about 7.00 and that's why I'm not in the pub! Jud p.s. any idea when they did change the design? |

They went from a flat to a keyway in 1997 when the started doing the all silver colour scheme i was reliably informed although lol a tiny few very early on might be on a flat. Methinks it was to use all the old shafts up. 77 i was in the Shetland isles on an oil terminal.

seems like we've got something in common mate. after the bridge we put the steel up for a plant on McDermott's oil rig fabrication yard in Nairn (Inverness). anyhow, I think that was the first oil change the motor's ever had! Jud
