Has anyone moved the pivot points for the hood on a 23? Probably like most folks it's not easy squeezing through that narrow gap in front of the forward canopy support when the hood is up.
While looking to buy a 23 I saw one that had a section cut out of each side to ease access and the canopy supports/stays had been separated from one pivot point to two. From memory (wish I'd photographed it) the rear support had been moved back about 45cm and the forward one moved up on to the sloping part of the cockpit wall towards the windsheild (sorry, can't describe it any better  )
When putting the canopy down the forward support would fold forward across the top of the windsheild after unclipping the cover from the inside. The rear support would fold back as normal.
The supports had obviously been shortened. |

On my norman 25 I had 2 canopy poles (it was a long canopy with the back cut off)both mounted on sliders, it gave a full metre wide opening when up but when down the rear pole slid forward so it rested on the rear deck and the front pole slid forward so it could hook over the screen then back to sit nicely, made for a very open and uncluttered cockpit, the screen could then fold down over the pole, the whole lot could go up or down in about a minute.

| My 23 had a similar arrangement to DF's 25 and also had a roll up rear panel as well making aqccess very easy, The actual supports were also on slide bars as well so they could be adjusted. The frame was with the boat when I bought it. Gary, at Coverit made a new canopy for me. |

Brilliant! That's exactly what I thought I had seen. It gives me some idea of where to mark the pivot points and do some measurements before doing any cutting!
The other idea from df and trevork is also good. Being new to boating I didn't know these slide bars and fittings existed, so many goodies, another week's pension spent at the click of a mouse

When I had my canopy made the guy doing it was chuffed that someone actually knew how and what they wanted, usuallu he just gets given a colour and material spec so goes to a standard layout, always best to plan it first, and the only way to do that properly is with beer.

Thanks for your timely info re canopys.
Ours is on its last legs and we were wondering how to improve the access into the boat, so your comments and Yorkiestans pics of Little Lottie seems to be the ideal solution.
Have contacted Coverit and they are coming to measure up for it this week.

Hi guys
I owned "Little Lottie" for 4 years, only sold it last year due to finance problems. the canopy was lovely for getting in and out of with great ease. also it folded down so it all sat just behind the rear seats whilst still on the back pole and the front one just pushed up to the top tof the windscreen assembly, both were then in a position were they were not in the way.
would recommend that configuration to anyone.
