I've just finished servicing my Yanmar desiel including a new fuel filter. The engine looks like it has two. One large cannister type on the line to the engine (this is the one I changed) and a smaller one bolted to the engine. I made sure there was clean fuel in the filter when I replaced the cartridge. I started the engine first turn of the key and it ran for about 5 mins, it then stalled and won't start again. I've undone the bleed screw at the bottom of this fuel filter and when I took a screw out of the top fuel ran out into a drip tray, but nothing seems to be coming out of the supply pipe to the engine when I crank the engine.
Anyone got any clues about how to fix it? The boat didn't come with any manuals, but somehow I think I've got to get the air out. Before it stalled the engine ran very well considering she has been on my drive for the last 4 years and I am hoping to launch at the weekend to avoid a divorce.
Theres probably a lever on the lift pump or a primer bulb near the tank to pump it through the filter to the injector pump, once the fuel is up to the injector pump you will need to crack off the injector pipes at the injectors and crank the engine over with the throttle fully open, when fuel starts to come from the injector pipes nip them up and it should fire up, shut throttle quickly before it over revs. Be careful as fuel is at very high pressure at the injectors. Till the injector pipes are full of fuel they'll never lift the needle off the seat with air pressure as it compresses too easily. This is a generic guide as I've never worked on a yanmar diesel.....
How many cylinders does it.In my 32 it is a single. If you don't have any luck in starting it and its like mine I can tell you what I did to start mine.
