Hi Specialized
welcome to the world of boating and the magic of the disappearing pound.

the steering could be a sign of the cable needing lubrication or replacement, the windscreen can be cleaned and polished using a polish made for the rear screens of convertible sports cars, we bought some from E-bay and it worked wonders,a new screen from Littleport marina is about £300. curtains can be fixed by using screw in hooks or chipboard screws but you must drill a pilot hole in the inner molding and dont go too deep.

i hope this helps and please try and post pictures as we all need a bit of inspiration.

The trim issue is explained by the 'new to boating' bit, everyone zigzags along the river at first, steer positively and go back to centre then wait for the boat to react, it's much slower to react than a car and the steering is from the back, bear with it before using lots of ballast.

As Dave said control comes with practice,I still wander on the odd occasion but I have loaded loads of ballast on over Christmas and have no improvement in control so it's off to fatbusters for me!

To put pictures on here first sign up to Photobucket (free) and put your pics up there. Then open picture and click "image links" to the right of your picture and a little drop down box will appear, move mouse down and click IMG CODE - and you will see the word "copied" appear.

In your forum post select a line below which you want your post to appear and right click and select "paste" from the drop down menu.

The image code will be pasted and when you post your message the picture will be there. This one is my wife and I with our friends kitty cat!

And this is the code with the front bracket changed so it doesn't appear as a picture and you can see it.

Steering - apart from greasing the cable if try greasing the motor pivot tube - they normally have at least 2 grease nipples. I assume you've got a Norman steering system when you say "cable" and not a length of plastic covered wire running around pulleys? That's pretty old fashioned!

And for you - get the term "steer small" in your head!! In other words make a small wheel movement and WAIT............see what happens? You'll soon see how much "helm" to put on to change direction. You need to steer the opposite way for a little to stop the swing before coming back to the ahead position. The term for that is "meeting her". I'm not talking here about a massive helm to turn around or that sort of move, but just heading more or less straight down the river.

The rotation of a propeller will also move your stern to port (left) or starboard according to direction of rotation, the part of the propeller deeper in the water "paddling" the stern away from the blades rotating in the deeper and thus denser water layer.

As for ballast while it's true that Norman's are light compared to a boat with any sort of a keel and directional stability is not the best once you have your boat loaded and you have practised steering her I doubt you'll need ballast apart from a bag of sand or so to trim her level.

Very well actually, although as it was a long 12.5hr flight; she, (the tigress) started off a bit restless at first as some of the younger children were running up and down and wanted to sit on her and pull her ears. She's only a year old and didn't take too kindly to that but I noticed that it did begin to get much quieter as the flight wore on and after about 6 hours or so was very quiet and she lay down and slept.

Strangely she didn't seem to want the tinned food we had arranged to be brought on board for her, not hungry at all and at Heathrow she actually vomited up a pink trainer and two odd socks? Where the heck did she get to eat those?

Good job you flew direct, might have caused a bit of a stir if you changed in the Gulf.
Nice to see the trip turned out well and best of luck.

Thanks, there were 3 trips last year actually, took my daughter on the last one because she wanted to play with tigers too. She was bottle feeding the cubs, 5 of them, all Labrador size upwards. We brought the young lady who was sitting on my knee (Arisa) back with us and we were married in our church last October. So yes, it did turn out well, very well indeed!
