Can any one suggest how I can get a piece of glass for a small sliding window in my 32. At the moment it is perspex which is very scratched the originals are 5mm toughened. Laminated is not thin enough. A secondhand one is probably a long shot. So I am open to suggestions
Windows must be made by a different company all my side windows are 5mm. I have got them all out and fitting new rubbers.It was only when I took the last one out that I found it was perspex and the reason was that the window had been damaged before I got the boat. If mine had been 6mm I could have fitted laminate glass.
thats a pity as I said I re-did all my 23 quite a task as bits were missing on the frames but 6mm fitted didnt relise the frames were different but its dosn't suprise me I had one old bit it was perpex stuck on glass to make up the thickness but its all replaced' cost a fortune, best of luck stratford
Just thinking back on this if you try and use "U" shaped flock it's too tight for 6mm in the frame I just fitted flat flock for the glass to slide on the glass being thicker gives it a good fit been working fine with this arrangment
What rubbers are you using, may be able to get thinner for 6mm glass, I have always used the flat flocked stuff for sliders as it forms a good neat U shape when fitted.
I am using the flat flock which has creases in where it folds into a "u" and I use washing up liquid to lubricate it because the glass is very tight to get in and have to work the sliders with both hands to get them free enough to use just the handle. So there is no chance of using 6mm
Merlin reading again what you said. If you only used flat for the glass to slide on,does that mean you have nothing at the side of the glass. If so that is why you got 6mm in and the original would have been 5mm.
yes I trimmed the sides off of the flock and used the flatted piece the new flock was of a rubber and velvet make up the original was a type of soft wadding but no longer available care has to be taken when fitting flock that it does not block the water escape holes across the channel

yep I tried this with the original 5mm that was in one of the frames when I refitted it to the boat and the frame pulled up and the soap dried tarzan could'nt have opened it
