Hi All, Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year to you all.
Just to let you know: The changes to the examination have all been adopted and will be in place from 01 January 2013. Unfortunately all the public facing websites are down at the moment (Being updated ready for the changes)
I will post the new links here once they're live.
The main change you need to be aware of is that if you have gas and/or mains power you, or your representative, will need to be present! This is because the examiner must see the whole of the bottom of the gas locker and you will be expected to remove and replace the gas cylinders. And, you or your representative must isolate all main 230V supplies before the examiner can inspect that
More changes are due from 01 Apr 2013 - not to the examination but to the paper-work etc. i.e. There will be a Certificate but nothing like it is now and it is unlikely the examiner will be able to give it to you on the day as he will have to enter all the data 'on-line' before he can issue. Also there will be no need for sending a copy to licensing. Its unlikely you will get any of the other paper work you get now!
That's progress! If you think about what you get now for a car MOT - its pretty much the same.
How does this relate to those that have Gas bottles on the Stern ?
Having no gas locker we surely would not have to remove the bottle for an examiner to see if the bottom is in good order - Or do we have to show that the gas bottle is in good condition ????????????

Sewer Tubes ? I'd rather have a D**ncr*ft (Only Kidding)
No they're fine. Mind you some examiners don't like them at all as they argue the cylinder is not protected!!! But I would pass it. The new check is more for steel boats with badly corroded locker floors that could allow LPG to leak to the interior of the vessel. You would be amazed at the number of 'sewer-tubes' that swim with the gas locker flooded and owners who do little or no maintenance.
