Left Leicester yesterday afternoon. In normal style we are sat at Cromwell now awaiting the ebb for the trip to Torksey tommorrow (too early a start to hit keadby in one hit as tide arrives 1pm. Not sure what we will do with only a few hrs cruising tommorow but the pub at Torksey may be in the Plans !!!!

| Can't you get as far as West Stockwith? Nice basin to moor in and a pleasant pub. Yes, you have to go through the lock but there is a great lockie! |

Torksey has floating pontoon outside lock and the white swan does excellent grub, enjoy.

White swan it was last night!! Ran downstream to Keadby on the last of the ebb, made it in without hitting the silt or wall despite the efforts if the two sewer tubes in front!! Watched the next two tubes run aground & hit the wall with a large bang!!!! Unfortunately the time in them getting in left the wide beam cruisers out on river for 3 hrs until conditions were correct. At bramwith junction for the night (End of stainforth & keadby) for the run on the aide n Calder tommorow

Sat at Castleford awaiting the river to drop for the morning. Ran up from Ferrybridge with the river touching reds - we were the only thing moving!!! River dropping nicely so should be out tommorow before the commercials arrive.

Thwarted again by the weather oop in Gods Country!!
Heavy thunder storms again today have closed the flood gates with only a couple of river sections to go :-( Although we have covered a fair bit of ground today.
Locals claim we should be good to go tommorow.
Then the slog over the Pennines awaits !
Box section hand spike failed at first try - Too big!!! Blagged a old length of oak of a BW chap perfect & free !

Stopped just below the flood lock at Mirfield.
Spent all day fighting flood gates that took up to 2hrs to fill long sections!!!
Moored now at Sowerby Bridge. Been trying to ring the lockie all day. Will try in person in the morning.
Hope everything is ok up here - The Tuel lane tunnel pound is empty don't know if that's normal!!!

Obviously they are not so tough or silly up north!!! We had a good start to the day from Sowerby bridge & based on this booked the summit passage for the morning (most take 3-4days). Fell short by a mile & 5 locks which means a 6am start to make the passage.
A very pretty cut but we can see why not many folks come over the top!!!

DAY 4 MON (Bank Hol)
Torksey to Bramwith Junction = 42 miles , 3 locks
DAY 5 TUES
Bramwith to Castleford = 22 miles , 5 locks
DAY 6 WEDS
Castleford to Mirfield = 18 miles , 16 locks
DAY 7 THURS

DAY 8 FRI
Sowerby bridge to Winterbutlee (Lock 30) 11 miles 29 locks
DAY 9 SAT
Winterbutlee to Littleborough = 5 miles ,18 locks
DAY 10 SUN
Littleborough to Kay Lane lock = 7 miles 15 locks
DAY 11 MON
Kay Lane to New Islington Basin = 5 miles 19 locks

Great Haywood to Stenson = 28 mile 15 locks
DAY 16 SAT
Stenson to Trent Junction = 12 miles 8 locks
Day 17 SUN
Trent to home ! = 18 miles 10 locks
Total Mileage 324 miles 250 locks (Inc flood locks) & lots of swing/lift bridges !
The impossible cruise - We were told it couldn't be done in the time , in fact thats probably correct , the hardest cruise we have accomplished in our annual trip (Birmingham & Tardebigge do not compare even tho that trip had a 100 more locks!)
The Rochdale summit, Peak Forest & Macc are stunning - Its shocking to me to see no boats using the upper Rochdale after all the restoration during my youth (Everyone does Sowerby to Hebdon thats all)
Yorkshire - "Gods Country" - Guess I have upset the 'Big Lad' over the years as it rained mostly until we hit the summit & crossed to Lancashire when it became sunny all the way home
The Rochdale is highly recommended - But a passage in 4 days is not for the faint hearted !!! We may have crossed quicker but met a tube at the Summit pound & stuck with them down to Manchester (A lovely retired couple who really made the hol)
Pics to follow - Most off the iphone (Poor) as had battery probs with the cam - still sorting emm out !!!
This weekend - max of 8 miles return trip with a pub !!!!

Yer completely bloody mad Adi!!! Sounds like a great hol though, my 2 week hol consisted of 1 lock twice and it's manned so didn't have to get off the boat and two swing bridges that I called on the radio as I couldn't be ar5ed dropping the aerial and mast (and lots of pubs )
