Mine, at the helm of my 'new' Norman 20. We tried to bring the old girl to her new home, by sailing from Plymouth to Fowey today. The shipping forecast didn't look very good at all, so I was pessimistic. We headed out past the breakwater to take a look. I was 'driving', under the instruction of the previous owner. When we got into breaking 8 foot waves we decided to turn back!
The sea conditions don't look like improving much in the very near future, and the old owner needs his mooring asap, so planning to trailer the old girl back instead.
Still enjoyed myself despite the aborted run and burning up a 4 gallons of fuel in 90 minutes. |

It's all a learning curve....... sounds like you had epic fun though!!!!!!

| Finally made it round today. Left home at 5am this morning, sailed at 7am, got to Fowey in 2 hours (~25 miles). She cruises nicely at 12-13 knots. Did use 45 litres of fuel though! The sea was nice and flat but getting out of Plymouth harbour in thick fog was rather exciting. Luckily my friend brought his gps navigation system (worth more than my entire boat!), and it worked very well. |

Good new Mike - I guess you are on your home mooring now.
So now the fun expense starts !!!
Fuel costs aside, it must have been a nice maiden voyage on the plane !
I used to moan about my old inboard drinking a litre a mile ! Saying that it wasnt @ 12knots
Shame its hard to get pics of your tub planing the waves - We like that sort of stuff on the forum (We normally only get salty pics on here of boats under tow by the RNLI )

All very impressive Dave , But you didnt wind 350 plus locks in 2 wks like we did in 2007 - River Soar, Trent , T&M , Coventry , Brum & Fazely , BCN , Staffs, Severn , Worc &Brum , Stratford Cut , Grand Union , Foxton n Home
Saying that - I'm gutted - would swap that trip for a few hrs in the Salt - Can you & Deano escort me & Chez (Chez & I ?) over the wash

It's a shingle beach at orford ness so shelves off quite quickly, we hugged the 5 metre contour on the chart plotter all the way down the edge of it.
Hopefully back down that way next week weather permitting, can't wait.
