| Hello everybody. My 20 has a great tendency to not steer straight at low revs. I've been reading up about "Ruddersafe" and was wondering af any one here has had experience of using this. It maintains that at a slow speed it makes steering easier inasmuch that you end up getting to where you want to go as in mooring to a tight space, reversing etc. Its expensive and I would be glad of your comments before i take this any further.Thanks Bob. |

Hi
I have a rudder safe on my 15hp outboard fitted to a Norman 23 low speed below 5 kph it is very effective but at higher speed the steer becomes heavy. I hope this helps

| I have one fitted to my honda 7.5 which is on a norman 20 and it works very well at canal speeds.It does help with manouverability and makes 180 degree turns easy.Hope that helps- |

Mine broke and went into the depths once.
I tried to manage witout but soon replaced it with a new one.
Cheap off e-bay add a rudder from Marine Tech. That`s the best price I can find at £40 it`s a steal, mine was £50 in May 2008.
It makes low speed steering a doddle, I personally don`t have any issues at higher speeds.
That`s a Norman 23 with a Honda BF15.

| Thanks for the comments. I think I will take the plunge. the suggestion of a new rudder is relevant as last week, when in reverse, I found a submerged wheelie bin with the usual results !! Did the prop in as well but I know a guy who actually re-builds props an he "owes me one" |

Dead easy to fit, it just bolts on around the leg above the cavitation plate.
I put extra bolts in and locking nuts to make extra sure this time.
It`s simple really just 2 alloy bars around an alloy plate with holes in the bars.
Simple but effective. |

I've got a home-made rudder about the size of a small barn door on my Enfield leg and it makes a HUGE difference to the steering. It remains positive until you are virtually dead in the water. Great help when reversing as well.
On the downside, it's great for collecting weed, and we've had a lot of that in the Witham this year.It was ( and still is in places ) like boating through shag pile carpet!
