Hi all Have now managed 5 lovely days afloat on Angel Chariot on the Southern broads since its launch a month ago - bl*%dy work gets in the way of my life! Anyway, I am in the process of having a Truma E gas heater fitted, but this won't run whilst the boat is left on its moorings between uses. What have you all used to keep frost/condensation at bay? I have shore power, but would prefer not to have a huge electricity bill! Tube heater? Fan heater? Deano, I think I saw somewhere you used an oil filled rad with thermostat set at 4 degrees - what is the make/model of this heater?
The rad came form Argos. It is the 450W one. It was on special offer and I had some Nectar points to use. I'm sure tube heaters would be just as good.
The thermostat came off ebay - search for ET05. Its the one every one uses. About £18.
Last year I used £6 of electricity all year... now my meter may be misreading, but that is electricity at cost.
I buried the heater in the engine bay and plugged it in. I also ran some antifreeze into the water pickup. Belt and braces, just incase the shore power tripped out or a fuse blew.
For at least 3 weeks last winter we were iced in solid. I was expecting a big electric bill and was amazed at £6!!
Has the oil filled rad its own frost setting/thermostat?if so whats the avantage of the ET05? Is it you can set the rad to a higher/warner setting thats controlled by ET05?
The rad has it's own thermostat, but no markings and I had the EY05 any way so was able to set it to a specific temp, thats all. I guess you could use the stat on the rad if you went too choosy about accurate settings.
