Well
Having took the bedding , tv & remnants of food stuff off the boat last weekend , we are now officially depressed at not having a boat for the winter.
Ok , the weather is still ok & the Soar is still at summer levels, but Chez gets cold easily so nights aboard are not really an option (Also the licence has expired)
But...... Next yr ..... Where to go........... 2 weeks plus a couple of days...
As Standage is still not an option (I'd do it at the risk of sinking or taking the roof off - IANM if you go thru on MOO let me know - I'll wind all the locks on the HNC for you for a trip thru the tunnel! )
So...
1) Trip down the Trent to Keadby , then across & back up the T&M
2) Ouse based adventures - Down to St Ives (Not done b4)
3) London & the Thames - Done in Dads Sewer Tube , but a pic of a Norman 22 under Tower Bridge , hmmm I fancy this one
4) T&M & Weaver thru the flashes to the 'Unnavigable bits)
5) Manchester area & Bridgewater - Not done this since a lad
Choices Choices Choices.....
Any other ideas considered

| If you want to come as far as st neots we can offer free mooring for a few days, just give us a shout.you could then chuck insults at Deano and DF in person!! |

But the cruise would be nice ! Is the Ouse like the Thames then ? Payable bankside moorings ? Bloody EA

Down onto the Severn & back up the Avon - Last time we did the Severn we came back up the Worcs & Brum - It was just after the massive floods & we were advised not to take the Avon route (Heavy rain was expected again) Of course it didnt come...

| Up the Trent to the proper Ouse maybe? York and the Yorkshire dales are as good as anything else anywhere! There is also the Derwent to explore. Or there are two more crossings of the Pennines which don't have tupperware busting tunnels! |

Gt Ouse is really nice, especially the bit round St Ives. Moorings are in short supply but there are some free EA ones dotted around. GOBA (www.goba.org.uk) offer twice the amount of moorings for an annual fee (but they are fascists ;p). We've never been checked on a GOBA mooring so unless it has changed in the last few years you'd get away with it.
Can't see us gong through Standedge any time soon. We have enough trouble keeping up with the painting without voluntarily adding to the list. And, anyway, it sounds a bit, um, adventurous for us simple souls. |

Plenty of free mooring spots on the gt.ouse courtesy of EA and GOBA, as Ian says GOBA don't check unless someone's been there ages, marinas charge, only free showers are at hermitage lock, others are from marinas but usually cheap to use.
How far is it for you via nene and middle level?

It's not the distance from the Nene, its the locks... there's hundreds of them. All have to be reversed first going one way and then when you go back they have to be reversed after you leave them!!!

Whilst the route north to York is still strong, St Ives is also a big pull
Just had a quick look at CanalPlan
2 routes
1 via Salters Lode , Welney Bridge & Earith
2 via Salters Lode , Denver , Ely , Earith
Which would be the best ?

Although having done it it in somewhat unsavoury company, I can recommend the second of those options. Ely really is a very pleasant place to visit by water!
Denver is quite impressive too. |

Salters lode to earith is dependant on water levels and weed growth, if you go that way take lockies advice and let the flood shove you along, it can be dodgy at times but saves most of a day, when heading back leave earith at denver HW and meet the flood part way down, that way you still have some depth when you get to denver/salters lode.
As Trevor says Ely is nice and the pub at brandon creek is superb, theres some nice tributaries off that end as well.
You don't fancy boston to denver via the wash then?

Don't even think about the 100 foot. It's not worth the effort.
Ely is a fantastic destination. Easy reach to Tesco, Swimming pool, good food for all tastes. Play park for the kids. Free mooring, pump out and good cruising in all directions.
