It will soon be time for the next foray onto waters unknown, 2 1/2 weeks to be precise, what pubs can people recommend to visit along the trent and tributaries, anywhere with good food/beer/moorings and a late running bar would be even better  , I've visited most options along the witham so have a few ideas for that bit but once out of torksey we'll be on new ground.

Our 20 was moored at Beeston Marina when we bought her, and the Riverside Bar there serves the best pint of Mansfield bitter I ever tasted. The Boathouse Cafe next door does hearty food at excellent prices.

Of course - The Swan at Torksey (I think its still open)
Really nowt to speak of on the Tidal apart & you wont be stopping till Cromwell anyhow.
Theres the Ferry at Muskham - Never managed to get in there as limited pontoon moorings.
Theres plenty to choose in Newark including The Barge (Floating pub) but also a large no of err pikeys travellers  some who enjoy running up & down the tube roofs on a Fri night! We've never had a prob there but generally dont overnight.
Theres the Ferry at Stoke Bardolph - Never used it but 'He who shall not be named' always reckoned it was ok for a meal.
One or 2 pubs in Gunthorpe, You should find a mooring somewhere unless its a bank hol !
Of course - Nottingham (Only moor around Castle Marina) Then Beeston has a ok Boaty bar - Trent Lock / Sawley - You know about those although I believe the 'Racing Snakes' have vacated !
How far are you coming up ? if its a weekend may have a foray out in the car for a pint (Boat not ready & the house is a nightmare as new windies being fitted)

I'd like to make it up to sawley at least which should be easy enough, we have 2 weeks off and planning on leaving denver monday 4th july and getting back to denver around thursday 14th july, all weather permitting of course, always game for a meet up involving beer.

Not worked out yr timings from Denver (Cant be Ar5ed & know you r not as manic as me n Chez!)
However if you can make a bit of extra time (Well not many pubs on the Trent) & can arrive at Trent Lock on a Fri (This will involve winding 4 locks (God forbid) I would happily join you for a trip up the Soar on Sat & wind all locks for you & Ali !!! returning for the pubs on Sat night
The Soar is a lovely river & worth ticking off
& of course maybe Chez will come too so I won't need to wind any !

I agree with that.
If you go as far as Trent Lock you must venture up The River Soar to Loughborough at least it`s a lovely stretch.

Book yourself in at Kings Marina for a night at Newark.
Secure, elec Hook-up and cheap, then you can venture into the centre knowing your boat will still be there when you crawl back from the pub.
You can get to Trent lock from there in a day easy...I wouldn't bother stopping in Nottingham, there's a nutter going up and down in his speed boat who nearly put us on the towpath the other week.

I must admit there was a boy racer in a speed boat who passed us about a mile upstream from Beeston Lock once ... but at least he had the good grace to slow down while he passed us. I could almost hear him whistling innocently as we passed.

No comment from Dave - I fear he is now scared at the lack of pubs on the Trent !
Beer Tokens available Dave if you can make it up to the Soar !
If lucky - you may spot my favourite sewer tube (Although not seen for a couple of yrs) named 'Soar Bottomed Lady'
Pls post when you return from the pub !

I moor there, yeah is a good place to be, good scenery, good people there, nice walk along Attenborough Nature reserve. I like the place, if it is a bit expensive. If you pass there and see a Conquest alongside a big Viking, its mine

Been 'sorryting' around the river this weekend in a Canadian canoe & met Bryan aboard Dermot twice - He agrees that if you dont comz up the soar your are a bigger fool that we thought (Not possible!)

Whats the actual date Dave that you will arrive ?
I finish early on a Fri so choice would be yrs for a cruise up the Soar on a Fri or the Sat, If its a one way up the Soar with a mooring at a pub on the Fri I would have to try & arrange a lift back to the car for me n Chez, failing that a Sat cruise with a turnaround back to the car.

I've had words with Chez - She will keep the windlass away as long as you agree to sell Dermot to us when you've done with her for the princely sum of £3.50
Dave & Ali will be safe as they have a boat that wont fit thru narrowbeam !
