I have a norman 23 mk 1 the steering is an up and down shaft going on to a round gear cog, how do I lubricate it it has a inlet on the top do I pour oil into it if so what kind or grease ? thank you sam n wen .

I think the principle of those is rack and pinion so if you were to pour some - say - EP90 gear oil in the top it would work it's way down into the spiral cable inner as well. It certainly wouldn't do any harm unless it drips out onto your Axminster head's carpet!

They would have been assembled with white grease - 40 years ago! But the cable inner would have been dry.

Any lubrication has to be good! (For the cable I mean!!)

thanks for the info ill pore sum gear oil down the inlet and see what happens ok thanks sam n wen .
