I've had the following from Andy. Anyone got any suggestions??

We have a Norman 23ft think about late 1970’s. We are new to canal boating and getting used to our little boat and enjoying it very much. Inside the cabin, is a small stainless steel sink with a plastic tap that swivels. It does not work, but attached to the tap is a pipe with electric cables running from it. We cannot quite understand how this would work. If you could explain we would be eternally grateful, or better still do you know if you can buy new ones. I know it is a tall ask without seeing it.

Many thanks Gwen and Andrew Olson

The wires would connect to a pump in a tank or container. Turning the tap - which is actually a switch, would have turned on the pump so water would flow - jut like a caravan system which is what it essentially is.

So you might/might not actually find a tank up in the bow with pump and pipe attached, or would need to replace. If you replaced it I would get a bladder tank up in the bow under the vee-berth, a rubber pipe to a deck filler outside, and a pipe for a vent and one for the feed to thep ump. Then buy a proper automatic pump and get normal house taps. The advantage of that system is you can fit a shower, a water heater and so on.

Finally living the dream!
