Hi all, has anyone fitted a eberspacher type blow heating system?
I've been told it can't go inside the cabin, can't be near the petrol, and the qualified fitter wouldn't go near my Chinese version because it didn't have the CE stamp on it. Apparently, these types are becoming popular, so sod it, I'm determined to fit one somehow.
Any advice would be very helpful. I want it fitted to my Norman mkII
23'.

FIT A CO ALARM!!!!!!!!!!
Take the silencer to a welder first and get the seam round the outside welded as they are not sealed or buy a marine sealed version, keep the exhaust hose well away from any fuel lines and check what it's made of as I think they use ali on the chinky versions so may be worth getting a piece of the webasto/eber hose in stainless and wrap lagging round it.

I was quite anti to start with but they seem to be proving themselves and cost less than the cheapest fix for the pukka versions so can be considered a disposable item.
They probably have a CE stamp but it means chinese export not the proper CE mark (it's done slightly different but very close, typical chinese rip off stuff).

I would run it from a portable outboard tank with bayonet fitting at the tank to keep the bss happy, I've had an outboard powered norman pass like this before with a webasto setup.

And there are a couple of groups on Facebook, one is the Dawncraft Owners Group and the other is the Norman Boat Owners Group - both have had posts about successful installations of cheap Chinese diesel heaters, but they do use Eberspacher exhaust hull fittings, lagged exhaust pipe, and change the nylon fuel pipes for copper to comply with BSS.
Funnily enough they never mention CO alarms, perhaps you ought to join up and enlighten them Flinty?

According to the thread on the ybw motorboat forum insurance companies have been asked specifically about the lack of CE marking on these things and fitment to boats and said no problem, I guess it depends on which insurance company, this surprises me.

Is this some new legislaty thingummy because they're chinky 'eaters?
Never mind, I love sex and travel (FO) - that's how I wound up married to this little thing 38 years younger than me and have to reside far from the UK madding crowd, police speed traps and CCTV up every lamp post. Don't miss it tho' and anyway I'm so non-pc even Alf Garnett would walk round me.

Boat has just had it's BSC renewed,and I fitted a new CO alarm.Not a cheapie,but a Honeywell. Pushing the test button it sounded off,but I remember a member here saying that pressing the test button only tested the sound,but not the sensor.(Think it was (cliveshep)
Put the alarm at the boat's exhaust,(diesel engine)for about 10-15 seconds.Not a peep.Put it at the car's exhaust,(petrol engine)and it sounded off immediately.
After a bit of thought,I realised that diesel doesn't produce much CO,but plenty of other stuff.
Perhaps a different sort of alarm needs fitting as well as the CO one.
One that is sensitive to diesel fumes,although I have not heard of them. |

Hi,
I have just fitted a propex 2kw warm air blower to my Norman 23.
Works great but has firing problems when using butane but fine with propane.
Really easy to fit as well. |

Btw, iv'e got the same system fitted on my 27. Just back from a 2 week jaunt to Ripon, used daily in the morn at wake up time and about 2 hours in the evening. 60 watt solar panel kept this and the tv no probs via 2 x 110 batteries. Without the Propex i would be divorced, but i wont hold that against Propex.lol.
