1 - My Norman 23 has a 1000w inverter. I'm trying to find out how it works. I'm adding a photo of the label in the hope that someone can help me to find an online manual for it. I can't see any actual manufacturer named but hope someone might recognise it. The photo is turned through 90 degrees to make the label easier to read. The right side of the photo is the top.
2- The top of the inverter has 2 x 13 amp sockets, a switch and three lights. If I switch it on, the inverter beeps once, the lights all come on and immediately go off and then - nothing. If anyone has an inverter like this - is that what's supposed to happen?

if you plug in an appliance does it work ?
Are the batteries supplying it charged up ?
Do you have an inboard or outboard engine ? |

I only had one thing to plug into it - a small fan-heater which came with the boat (so presumably it has worked with the inverter in the past). Didn't make any difference.
Battery is about 65% charged. I was wondering if the inverter had immediately sensed that there wasn't enough battery power. The battery is now off the boat, at home, being charged, so I can try again when it's fully charged.
Outboard motor - Honda 9.9hp.

Throw it away or sell it on ebay - it is simply useless on a boat with a little outboard 8 amp max charge rate. Conservation of Energy laws apply - your cannot get out what you cannot put in! Fred is totally correct.
Save your pennies and buy one of these cheap inverter suitcase generators, will run a kettle, or a small fan heater, most of your diy power tools, tv etc, in fact everything you could possible want.
They do try and exclude your consumer rights but I think that would be covered under "Unfair Terms and Conditions" and in any event I don't think a statement by a UK firm can exclude UK law whatever they think. Here's the bumf, it's a 2-stroke, runs 5 hours on 4 litres of mix, and 2-strokes are quiet, mine is/was quieter than my 4 stroke of the same size. At this price for a 1500 watt inverter you can't go wrong. I had a Woolworth's one bought years ago for £45 in a sale - IU used it for years and sold it here in Thailand for more than I paid for it 15 years later. I suggest you don't give it loads greater than 1500 watts regardless.

| I have sold a lot of inverters and I am 100% off grid. That sounds as if it is faulty. Have you plugged some thing in to try it. Possibly a light should stay on to say it is ready for use the other lights would tell you when there is over load or over heating. There are thousands of makes of inverters so they are all not the same. |

Thanks for all your comments, mates. To be honest, I had already decided that the inverter is going to be a bit of a useless item for me. I plan to use the boat only for short day or weekend trips for the foreseeable future. I already have 12 volt lighting, USB sockets for phone and ipad charging and my only real need is some way of charging the battery as my mooring has no shoreline and the outboard's charge will be puny. Of course, an inverter is going to be no use for that! In the end I can easily take the battery home and plan to do that anyway, over the winter.
My attempts to find out how the inverter is supposed to work were just so I could check that it works before taking it off and selling it. |

| By the way - in addition to my previous post. I haven't forgotten about solar power to charge the battery and will look into this next Spring/Summer. Also forgot my manners - thank you Fred for identifying the inverter and giving a link to the manual. |

How cheap is it going? I may be tempted not that I've ever used an inverter before so not even sure why I would now.

Need a mud weight then Dave? Tom reckons it doesn't work so my guess is it will be going very cheap. I thought you owned an inverter gennie anyway?

I have a honda genny but it's 30kg and I rarely carry it as it's more weight to get on the plane and I rarely use it anyway, only bought it because it was silly cheap.
