Hi
I have insured our normam 23 boat with Craftinsure. I said it was under 23 foot as the requirement with them is it's under 23 foot it doesn't need an inspection and specs on here say 22 foot 8.
Just double checking as all ads for Norman 23 boats say they are 23 foot. I don't want to find out we aren't insured.

| You'll be OK. A Norman 23 is under 23 feet. It's an engineering thing. My 10hp outboard is actually 9.9hp. My 350cc motorbike is actually 348cc. I think that the phrase, 'must be less than 23 feet' means 'not exceeding 23 feet'. |

Our N23 has been insured with them for many years as a 23ftlong boat.
We have never had to claim on the insurance, and I have not heard of anyone having a problem re the length,and if you are still unsure contact their helpline on 0345 2607888.

My 23 has been with Craftinsure for years now.
I looked at the specs. for the Normans and the difference between a 22 and a 23 is 2", i.e. 22'8" and 22'10" respectively, so we're ok.
I've also read, Tom, that a 10 hp Honda only gives 8hp at the prop.
Weird eh?

It's also a quite normal boat thing....... very few boats are actually their "named" length....
If the Freeman world..... the Freeman 25 and the Freeman 26 are both exactly the same length!!!
The bigger and flashier the boat..... the more the "named" length lies!!!

Also with the Hondas you can take a limiter screw out of a BF9.9 carb. and get 13.5 hp out of it(apparantly).
Also I think the B100 (10 hp) was eventually re-badged as the BF8.
I await replies from people who know more than wot I do. |

| The very knowledgeable chap at the boatyard told me that the difference between a 9.9hp and a 15hp was the carburettor and there was me thinking it was a bigger piston bore, not to mention the Callumcraft with the flybridge !!!!!!!! |

With mariner 4 strokes the 2000 year 9.9 & 15hp engines were the same with a different carb, there was a 13.5hp version that was a 15hp with a restrictor plate between carb and manifold, all had the same gear ratio and prop the extra hp was from an extra 500rpm, a year or 2 later and the 9.9 & 15hp engines were different capacities entirely.
Don't know about the hondas.
The norman 20 is 20'3" so they are not all smaller than stated.

Just about the same with the Honda Dave. Different carb allows more revs giving more output. Interesting fact about all the 9.9 engines. America which has the worlds biggest market restricts a lot of lakes to boats under 10 hp. If you are caught with a bigger engine you get really hammered in fines and exclusions. People started buying 9.9 decals and putting them on a 15 HP hood as there is no difference in size but they get the extra power. If you google the 2 engine sizes and ask whats the difference all the above info is explained. Nowt on TV anyway.
