| Because of my problem having my prop smashed because the canals are not maintained. I am looking at designing and building a jet drive to replace my Enfield leg. Any comments and advice would be appreciated. |

Given the state of the waterways wouldn't a hovercraft or air-boat be more suitable?
Of course, being England they are not allowed. Even conkers have been banned.
If some of the money going to quangoes was diverted to actually improving the infrastructure both road and waterway it would be of benefit to the people but these days it's Government pay-rises first, then migrant benefits, and "The Arts" get a big chunk of the money. Whatever "The Arts" actually are they are certainly nothing the average Joe would be interested in, but funding amenity waterways?
Naaa, just make them look pretty, nicely mowed grass and paved tow-paths in proximity only, paint lock sides tops and gate balance beams white to look pretty - yes. But making sure they are fit for use and fully functional - no way.

Finally living the dream!

Clive I agree with your comments Tow paths looking good for cyclists and walkers and they don't pay any thing to the trust. And as I have told the story before. The Trust paid for a top London barrister to beet me in court. |

I totally agree the state of the canals is a disgrace for boaters I'm on the Lancaster in parts it's a joke. Went northward during the summer up past Carnforth towards tewitfield u can't go any further it's that overgrown u can't moor up you can't turn around if a narrow boat was to come in the opp direction there's nowere to go. I found it more of a endurance test than a relaxing day out .

As I have said I took the CRT to court but they put a top London barrister against me So I didn't stand a chance. Why don't all the boaters get together and make a stand. You are all paying a license to use a waterway that is not fit for purpose |

I'm intending going to the top of the lanky in the next week or so,just how shallow/overgrown is it Last went there about 10years ago and in a different boat, and it was shallow etc then, Then if you went to the top and photographed your boat there you "qualified"for a brass plaque from the northern reaches restoration group,is this still so? If so it'll be nice to get one for this boat.

The Lanky is now back to its usual level. We went to Tewitfield from Garstang when the canal was very low. We went in our Norman 23; fitted with an outboard, although the canal was low and there were places you could not come alongside we did not have a problem, bigger boats and narrow boats did have some problems, but there were still some getting up there, I don’t think you would have a problem getting there in a Norman now. It’s a nice stretch of the canal from Lancaster, just a bit noisy at Tewitfield.
