Hello All,
My Norman 22 has been sitting in Sawley Marina on the Trent as a part-time live aboard, while I work away from home in Nottingham. She's in fair condition and her 15 hp Mercury outboard was given a full service and clean bill of health this Spring. However, my employment ends on August 31st and it's my intention for my wife and I to move the boat through the canal system to Maesbury on the Montgomery canal. This is the closest point to our home in Wales.
The trip will take two to three weeks depending on a number of variables, but the motor might very well be run for a continuous 5 hours or so a day. This being the case, are there any things I should be aware of to make sure that the motor stays in tip-top condition? This will be our first proper journey on the cut, so I don't want to break down (too often?). Well.., I don't want to break down at all.
I'm aware that getting petrol will be a bore at times, but with forward planning that can be overcome.
Any advice would be welcome!

Is it 4 or 2 stroke? If a modern(ish) 4 stroke it will love the longer runs and probably do it a power of good, just check the oil level every few days to make sure it's not burning too much.
If 2 stroke you may need a tanker at regular intervals and plenty of 2 stroke oil.

She's a four stroke and about ten years old. Hopefully, that's 'modernish' enough! We're looking forward to the trip and the boat's new home!

Carry a couple of jerry cans to save fuel hunting and you'll be fine.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not) the fuel tank has no indication on it as to how many litres it holds, though it takes more than 10. Perhaps it's 12 ltr jobbie. We already have two 10 ltr jerrycans (steel ones) and we're thinking of getting a third.
