| Does any one know the rules of this canal. I want to put my boat on the canal for a holiday. But have been told I will only be allowed to go on the canal if I have a permanent mooring. I thought if you moved your boat every two weeks you did not need a permanent mooring. I don't want a permanent mooring because I want to explore other water ways. |

If it is the same as other CART canals then the 'normal' licence is only issued to those boats with a 'home' mooring. The alternative is a 'Continuous cruiser' licence....which requires you to move a certain amount each week.
For a short term holiday you would be better off with the 30 day explorer licence. Basically a book of 30 single day tickets.... to use how you see fit any time over a 12 month period. All in one go, or 30 occasional days, its up to you.

That sounds like a scheme that's easily abused, if you don't get checked you don't use a ticket, sounds too easy to me.

I suspect they have met people like you DF.... You probably have to date them at the start of the day and of you are caught without one you will not be able to date one then but will be in lots of trouble!!!

They don't send you tickets now. You're supposed to print a copy of your receipt and write the dates on the back of it yourself.
CART told me that(during a phone call), when I bought one last November.
Strange but true! |

| C&RT suggested we printed out a notice that says "Short Term Licence Holders" and place it in the licence holders on either side of the boat, as well as carrying the printed confirmation of the licene/s we held (in this case, 3 x 1 week, to run consecutively, which is cheaper than a month) Our registration number is clearly visible, so any passing C&RT official or any officiously-minded boat owner can look it up on the C&RT website, where it will say if you're licensed and what type of licence you hold. We intend to cruise the Brecon and Montgomery Canal as well, and like all the canals we hope to target, the only limitation as far as we know it is to find a suitable slipway where we can also leave car and trailer for up to 3/4 weeks. |
