My Evinrude 8hp four-stroke outboard was running erratically. Reluctant to come down from run to idle without stalling.

I found there was only one nut holding the carburettor to the intake manifold -- and I could see why! How on earth can the second, inboard nut be put in place and tightened?

I'm inclined to believe that I need to detach the whole intake manifold from the block in order to access the stud.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Peeps.

Isn't it wonderful, when a friendly engineer responds to my idea (take the intake manifold off) by spending about 45 minutes, with nimble fingers and much skill, in getting the 'impossible' nut on and tightened and refuses to accept payment!!

I am blessed!

Yep. I was assuming that Evinrude would love to sell you the special awkward nut-tighteny-tool for that one nut. A bargain at £35 plus handling, shipping and VAT.

You mean an old spanner cut and welded to fit?

If your fingers are nimble enough get a cheap 10mm combi spanner cut it in half and grind the ring thinner, that will fit, but as said you need nimble fingers to use it

Million to one question has anybody got a spark pack for a 211cc 8hp or 9.9hp 2001 Evinrude as ours has died and they are not avaliable anymore.
