Hi, we are considering buying a Norman 32 here in Ireland. Would it be suitable for the river Shannon and its lakes, or should we stay only on the canals? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

The broads is all tidal! As are large sections of the trent, Ouse, Gt.Ouse, Nene, but you'd be fine on all of them as long as they're not in full flood at the time.
I would have thought you'd be ok on the shannon as long you have enough power and keep off the open bits in gale force winds. I'd love to cruise the shannon.

We enjoyed our time on The Broads. We did Martham to Cantley in 8 hours on a 42'er because I got it right with the tide (even managed a quick pint in Yarmouth during slack water).
I'd love to go back there.

I am only putting a 25 hp Kubota in my 32 so I will have to be wary of any fast water. That's why I said not tidal.

Our outboard is a 9.9. on the Broads - The Shannon is a mighty water in comparison though. Happy cruising, Best Wishes, Florian
