Hi all a quick question.

When i got my 17 i had to remove the soaked flotation foam that had been added to the bow (under the seating) and either side of the transom (inside the blocked off seating) can anyone give me an indication of if this boat had this originally or if not why do you suppose they added it. The reason i ask is that i will be rebuilding the interior soon and the voids taken up with the foam i can utilize better, if i need it i will need new bulk heads to provide new cavity's and redo the foam

I doubt it was from original, I'd leave it out as it'll only hold water against the hull.
If the original foam was waterlogged it wouldn't help it float anyway.
You can't afford to waste space on any boat especially a 17 footer.

Well i have a theory on this foam lark, it appears that this boat had an inboard fitted in its life, if you look at the stern pic you will see where the prop went through the timber (four studs & filled in hole) so with that in mind i think the foam was installed to aid boyancy. as the center of gravity would have changed on account of the engine been inside the boat.

Thats my take on it anyway
