As we often tell people on here to check the vent screw first with outboard problems I though I should add this little gem. Having priming issues with my dinghy engine so checked the fuel level, yes I checked the bloody vent, was going to check the pump on the engine when I heard a noise from the tank as I squeezed the primer bulb so took the whole outlet fitting from the tank and checked the pickup pipe, it had a small split but as soon as i touched it the whole pipe fell apart, it was not petrol resistant! The chances are it's the ethanol content of modern fuel doing the damage but always something to bear in mind with these problems.
