Hello,
Purchased a norman 25ft last October. It had been left on a river for sometime and the water people removed it and put it up for sale at £1000, we held off for a few months and they then dropped it to £500, we went to view and decided we should go for it and put a cheeky bid in for £300, this was accepted! Bonus!
So we are now looking at moving her back from Ely to the midlands on a mooring we have secured on the oxford canal.
As you can see from the photos she needs a lot of love, we removed the canvas, water and rubbish.
Next steps, new canvas, strip the inside and have a good look at the engine as although i could get it to turn over, it would not fire.
Photos below!

Top tips for refitting.....
Throw nothing away - you never know when you may need it for a template...
Some things are very difficult/expensive to replace.... those front curved windows for a start!!!! Be extra careful with them.
Get it clean and useable first and USE IT this season. Then when you know what you ACTUALLY need and have had a seasons fun, you can start improving/replacing the worst bits. DO NOT embark on a massive restoration project until you have used the boat for a season.
Overall it looks like you have a real bargain there..... a bit of cleaning and tidying to do, but it all looks to be there and sound.
Good luck and keep us updated with photos.

Sound advice there, problem is all the wood inside is rotton at thebottom, its been full of water for some time and the smell isnt great!
The inside doesnt really fit our needs also so we will be ripping the inside out and changing.
The outside we will just rub down and paint this year, the hull will wait till next year.
Will keep you updated on how we get on, gotta get her up to he mooring at the month first though! |

Thanks, have seen that before.
It does also list a 25ft norman, CallumCraft 25 and Norman 25. |

Looking at this picture you have almost convinced me that you do indeed have a 25 but I reckon its actually a Callumcraft original rather than a Norman. No less welcome here for that though!

The view of the helm looks like the grp coaming edge may have been cut which could indeed indicate major modification. 22 would save you on moorings and river licence though....

The only "ID" markings Normans ever carried were hand written figures on the bare GRP up in the bows. I'm not sure if this applied to Callumcraft as well.

Quick question, The steering seems very heavy, as its out the water i would guess it should turn very easily?
Would it be best to replace the cable or are there some simple checks to make first?
Thanks |

Assuming enfield outdrive it's worth disconecting the cable from outdrive to see which bit is siezed, the outdrive can get pretty tight if neglected.
