Can anybody give me some ideas as to the best way of removing the old vinyl lettering from the hull of our boat? We've had some new ones made, but, they are in a different font and dont cover the old ones. Cheers.

The only way that I know of is to use and electric hot air gun or an electric hair dryer.

+1.
Hot air gun and careful picking with finger nail.... works every time.
Don't get the letters too hot, they start to melt. Just a gentle wave over to warm the adhesive is enough.

Yep hot airgun or hairdryer
a useful tool is a glass cleaner the type
you fit a Stanley blade in then use solvent plastic
cleaner to remove the glue

Follow up with a good degreaser/T-Cut before applying new letters and then polish

Agreed - hot air gun does the trick.

To fit new ones - mark the line, then get a spray bottle with soapy water and spray the hull where the name is to go.

Place the sign over the wet area and slide it into place.

Squeegee it down working from middle out.

You can then carefully peel off the top paper. If it is a bit cold use the hot air gun to warm it, peel backwards, don't pull outwards but fold the paper back and pull along the sign.

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!
