I have been searching for a belt driven raw water pump. But they all seem very expensive and from America.Could an electric pump be used? Any suggestions would be helpful.

If you were anywhere near Norfolk I would tell you to contact Jon at Wayford Bridge Marina, He has used diesel engine spares by the sackfull. I'm sure he would find you the pump you needed at a reasonable price.
I suspect you need to find a similar yard type marina nearer home and see what you can find.

The Thornycroft T.90 and T.108 engines have belt driven pumps - try here:

I bought one for a T.108 a while back - cost about £90.

What engine is it to fit? Can something be modified to fit? My puegeots have old bmc pumps modified to run off the end of the camshaft, had to do a bit of machining to the cams but 7 years on they are still working fine, beat buying new pumps....

For people wanting raw water pumps Ancor marine Italy have a vary large selection. In the end I got the correct pump that fits on to the back of the injection pump on my Kubota engine from Beta marine who marinise Kubota engines. But they are reluctant to sell parts because they want to sell the complete engine. But I will say they gave me a good price and good service so I was well pleased.
