A few pics of Gladys-May (Renamed in honour of my Grandmothers,(formally Lagatto plus 3 other names!))now the rebuild phase has got to the stage of waiting for the BSS inspection to take place on 12th November.
Sorry pics a bit big as I lost patience trying to re-size them on photobucket!
As first seen and purchased December2010. The ice was 4" thick and didnt thaw until mid February!
Hull after stripping back, prep and repaint, repolished topsides, refurbished and oak mounted Norman badges, new rubbing strake, exclusive muddy pawprint design by farm cat!
Ex Knighty engine installed. It runs sweet and no bits fell off.
Internal work, front cabin.
Extended galley, folding draining board/work surface and new oven/hob light over galley,LED reading light for berth.
New toilet compartment bulkhead (must get round to removing the masking tape adhesive!), bifold door, clock, smoke and CO detectors, fire blanket and extinguisher.
General view front cabin looking through cockpit hatch. New cushion covers (awaiting adjustment), carpet.
Radio/CD, speakers, shelf and curtains fitted new central cabin light and solar vent.
Toilet for use if the pubs are closed!
Front cabin view through to stern new cockpit seat squabs and backs.
Command and Control?? centre! New Steering system, engine controls (ex Knighty) and electrical circuit switch panels, (all since labeled up), cockpit lighting, New Fire extinguishers each side.
Rear Cabin Stateroom! New hull side lining, 50/50 doors, smoke detector, fire extinguisher, cusion covers carpet and curtains.
Engine bay access. Small locker and reading light above berth.
The End???
No, meerly the end of the begining, the new anchors, chain and rope arrived today, as did the alarm locks and a load of wooden posts to make the jetty. Think I'll give up looking for a new cabin girl on e-bay though they dont seem to come along that often! |

Re. Deano's question. The gloss wood finish is 10mm marine ply covered with a Sentora Cherry veneer then high gloss lacquered.
Originally intended for use on Princess and Sunseeker type cruisers.
The company I got it from would reject an entire 8.5ft x 4.5ft panel if it had a defect bigger than a 50p piece as they couldnt cut round the defect on a CNC machine. I only went to pick up 1 panel to replace the shutterboard rear cabin door and old toilet compartment bulkhead which had been trashed, I liked it so much I bought 3! The panels cost me £29 each, in perfect condition they sold for £250. |

Fantastic job Ken. That's the best wooden veneer varnish job I've ever seen on a Norman

12th November2012. Boat passed the BSS inspection. No advisories, ticks in all the right boxes across the board.
Wandered down to the river fields all flooded so vehicle access for launching no go for a couple of weeks, cant even get down there with materials to build a mooring since I have the week off. River pushing through at a fair rate. E.A. showning a lowering yellow on their site. Wanted to give the boat a run out after working on it for 21 months. Very frustrating! Maybe tow it over to the Kennet and Avon for a couple of days? |

Congratulations on the BSS, I bet thats a load off your mind.
I can't imagine the frustration of not been able to get out...... kid with a new toy and all that!!
