We have just purchased our first boat a norman 23ft 1979. It needs abit of work doing it, firstly to be made water tight. We have leaking windows and a leaking fibreglass hatch, with all the wood surround totally rotten. We need some advise as to where to get stuff, ie of the internet or local, we are in Lancashire. Are all the hatches the same on normans or different sizes?
Any help would be appreciated. thank you |

All the seals are available from Seals direct. Check the chanell drains are clear on the window but I would think the seals are gone to be honest. You can overhaul them yourself but they have to be taken of the boat, split the frame in half by undoing the screws (these will be rusted in so you will have to drill them out 3mm drill) 2 each side and 1 on the window bar. Fit new S/S self tappers, short ones as you cant have them going into the chanel more than 2-3mm http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/
If your wood surround needs replacing then use hardwood such as sapelle bedded on butyl seal/sealant.
Where in Lancs are you?

| If you don't fancy doing the windows yourself, a while ago, at least a couple of folk had great service from the RAC Plant Division mobile window fixers at a good price. After all, boat window fixings can be similar to those in vans. May be worth a try. |

When you get the frame out you will see where the frames join, two screws either side and one either side on the window bar. You will need flat flocked seal for sure. You may geat away with the fixed window seal.
Carnforth is a bit far for me from manchester otherwise I would have had a visit.

The ones with just the rubber (claytonrite) remove the silver filler from the rubber, this is a diamond shape and expands the rubber into the frame and glass. You can then remove the glass/perspex. Fit with new filler strip. To fit the windows back you will need the tool you cant do it without.WD40 helps with getting the filler strip in. http://www.caldwellswindows.co.uk/claytonritetool.html
I warn you now they are a pig to do.
