When I had my boat pulled out of the water last November, she was in a state - covered in more mussels than anyone else around here could remember:
 
Since then I scraped shellfish, sanded muck, acetoned paint stains, oxalic acid treated brown iron stain, filled gel coat, wet and dry sanded, Farecla G3 polished, primed below the water line and added 2 coats of antifoul. Oh yes and I removed the old engine water inlet and fitted a new speedo log wheel. Today she looks like this
 
I have also re-named her (Trevor please note the new name when you have time, thanks)

Where abouts on the Avon do you moor ?, i'm down in Offenham near Evesham. |

I am up at Bidford-on-Avon so I think we saw your boat moored by the pub when we called in there?

We did have a couple of trips to Bidford and beyond last year.
That would be us then for some reason my boat goes into auto pilot when it nears a pub  usually moor up at the Frog then a wander into the town to check out the other drinking holes..it would be rude not to.

Fresh water mussels are on the increase, mostly due to the much cleaner condition our rivers are in these days. Antifoul paint has also been changed to make it less nasty (and thus less effective!). Watch out for teeny mussels getting through water intakes and then growing and dying inside your pipework. I couldn't believe how many crushed and partial shells I found in the outboard one year.
I reckon the best thing to do is just poison the river...  |
