Ive recently replaced my outboard with a Parsun 15. Can anybody help me with the linkages to the engine from the helm steering cable please. Either the suppliers have missed out a coupla bits or I am just missing the point. The manual says nothing about this set-up,only pages and pages with a tiller set-up, so if any one has photos of their set up then perhaps you would post them on here for me. Thanks

When I bought my Honda engine I know I had to have a honda remote control kit. Not just the cables from helm and throttle, but a yoke which screws to the back of the engine to attach the steering cable and to anchor the ends of the throttle/gear cables (as well as a load of little connection bits). If you have bought a new engine I expect the manufacturers will charge you handsomely for such a kit. Sorry about this!

Thanks Peter, I got the remote plus all the cables for throttle and gear select, they're all fitted. The problem is that there is no explanation of how the steering connects to the engine case itself and I am not having much joy in getting replies from the manufacturers agent and they are MILES away. Looking at the engine there appears to be a major part of the linkage system missing. Hey ho, looks like a day off and a drive out is on the cards. This is why I was hoping for some photos of Parsun set ups so I would have the necessary ammo.

The bit thats missing wouldn't be the tilt pivot pin would it? A lot of outboard steering cables run through the middle of the pivot pin and come out the other side and have a link bar back to the steering arm.

Hi Apache,
There has been Parsun 15 engines mentioned on here before.
Woodbastwick mentioned fitting one with remotes in a posting.
As he only posted a few days ago i`m sure he will be along soon to offer advice if he can.

The pivot pin I was reffering to is part of the outboard itself, the pin between the transom clamp and the motor that allows it to tilt, part 14 on this piccie (although it's a mariner not a parsun)
The steering cable is meant to pass through it.

Thanks for that DF, I was down at Middlewich Boat Jumble yesterday and there was a 9.9 Parsun on a boat. There is a steering Link that passes through the pivot pin which in itself is connected to another connecting link. The former link, I am told , is an integral part of the motor and is the key to all things steering and should have been included methinks. With all this ammo I feel confident to talk to the supplier and ask for the part to be supplied. After all whats the point of having a brand spanking new motor if it only goes in a straight line. Thank you very very much for the info....much appreciated.

Have a look at the inset at the bottom left of this piccie, again it's mariner but the parsun should be very similar,all these parts came with my mariner when it was new, I still have parts 28 & 31 as my cable was mounted differently.
You can see the two bolt holes on part 34 where 31 bolts on.
