has anyone any ideas about installing a Carver caravan water heater in a norman 23 as they seem readily available on the dreaded Ebay and in the past I was a vanner and they were very good for a hot water supply? if I remember correctly they vented the gas exhaust out through the side of the van and pulled in fresh air from the same point.
I also had a gas convector heater which worked the same way so no fumes were loose in the van. I cant think of any reason why these heaters are not suitable for a boat so long as the vents exit above the water line
You need to be aware of the Boat Safety requirements which apply to lpg. All burners must be room sealed and vent outside. There is a link to the BSS on the main site links page.
Hi Sonny have fitted a truma water heater in the cockpit of my n24 made a small cabinet for it vented it straight out through the hull below the gunnel. passed the bs test couple of years back .. these are room sealed. truma make a special vent for boats.

We have a Rinnai mounted on the forward bulkhead in the centre cockpit. It does not vent outside the cockpit having just the top heat deflector plate above the heat exchanger. The cockpit is not, of course, hermetically-sealed and an emissions test indicated no CO problems. A gas engineer examiner (i.e. those who check out gas engineers) felt that the installation was perfectly OK.
As long as you have just one hot tap it doesn't have to vent outside, if you plan on fitting a second tap (shower) it must vent to outside but doesn't have to be room sealed.
I think Carver caravan heaters are room sealed, but not popular on boats, possibly due to no marine fitting kit. That would leave quite a large plastic vent very exposed to mooring incidents.
