so dont get your hopes up. Reading "suggestions for next year" gave me an idea, would it be possible for people to boat swap from different parts of the country allowing them to see areas of river/canal that they otherwise wouldnt see.

I did set up a website for that a few years ago, it had about 40 members but very little activity so I gave up with it, I did however get offered a 70' dutch barge in holland for a norman 25 for a week but it was worse specced than my 40 year old norman and I'd have needed the cevni test to move it.
I was always after a cruiser on the shannon for a week.

A variation on this that Ollie successfully tried was a mooring swap!

I think a mooring swap would be better as no-one wants to hand over their pride n joy (however rough) to someone else (Imagine taking a boat back off someone who had only done large river locks after they had took yr boat cruising the Narrowbeam locks!)

It would have to be agreed at yr home mooring too

This idea has just done the rounds on another boat forum and the general consensus was problems with insurance and boats being personal and like extensions of home with personal possessions would make it difficult to swap with anyone other than very close friends or family.

I have done it, but only with someone who I would trust with my life, wife and boat. (In that order!) I know him very well and I trust his honesty greater than the Pope!!
