hi all
im new to boating and not yet got a boat, after lots of looking i have set my mind on a norman 23 as seems ideal 1st boat would love a 32 but that might be pushing it without experience,and the misses, so as pointers when looking can i please use your expertise and indeed mistakes to help me through getting my first norman. im a joiner by trade so not worried by the cosmetic condition, just what to look for what to aviod etc, i have so many questions and looking forward to learning from you all.

| If You want a 32 go for it. Inboard diesel engine lot cheaper to run plenty of room in it So much more opportunity to refit to your own liking. I bought one last April, brought it home and refitting it with ceder. calorifier for the hot water, large bank of battery's and 2000 watt inverter. So I can run most things on mains voltage, Luxury for my retirement. |

Basic pointers:-
Canopies / hoods call them what you will, cost LOTS more than you may think. If in poor condition, factor in £600-700 for a basic replacement.
External condition, do you have the facilities to improve the exterior. If you need to paint, it is best done out of the water and undercover.
Engine. If it is a 2-stroke, you will be looking to replace it soon. Nothing ruins boating more than an unreliable, noisy old motor.
You are in a good position with your woodworking skills, a bargain could be found that needs interior improvements.
Inbord diesel may be cheeper to run, but mooring, licence and insurance will be considerably more with a 32. Everything gets more expensive on a boat the longer it gets.
