can any 1 tell me the best way 2 line the roof insideof my boat do u need 2 put something inbetween roof and match boarding or is it best 2 use plastic clading and what 2 stick it up with thanks
With you being carpetcookie I thought you would use carpet. I have lined a few boats with a light weight felt back carpet stuck with contact adhesive in a spray from Everbuild, dont use carpet spray adhesive it wont work.
The best way to do it is mark down the centre line of the roof and the run of carpet you are fitting, put a 6" line of glue on carpet and roof. Line up your marks and offer up to roof.You will need 2 people to do this as it has to be right first time as its an imediate stick. Then do each side in single stick.
Make sure you have all windows/doors open and get plenty of fresh air as you go along.
To fix any tongue and grove style product, you would probably need to fix some battens across the boat. This will reduce the valuable head room even more..... not a good plan unless you are a dwarf. I guess you are not, but If you are I have probably offended you and I apologise for that. Whilst I'm at it I'd like to apologise for DF too.
Foam backed vinyl is the covering of choice, but carpet seams more rugged and suited to Normans.

I have just relined my Norman 20 inside with t&g pinned and glued to tile battens which are in turn held in place with the bolts that hold the roof rails on. I am 6ft2ins and I can sit. Without touching the roof with my head. We also used Ikea under cabinet led lighting let into the ceiling and running from the on board batterylighting the interior at 0.4watts and a touch over£10cheap to fit and to run.luvly jubbly!
To get the most headroom use very thin T&G from side to side. and glue it in with polyurethane glue propping it up in the middle while the glue sets. Polyurethane can be obtained as 5 minute or 30 minute setting time.
Felt back carpet is extemely light and a good insulator/condensation problem solved, easy to fit.Its the new lanlord prefered carpet that has replaced the fibre cord used in rentals. The link Deano posted is exactly how I do mine.
We have just done our 22's roof with white plastic cladding boards you can get them from builders merchants look up plastic building products. they are 300mm wide. You get a length of J section channel screw it to one side drop the board in screw in the outer edge use SMALL self tappers and slide the next section in and repeat to work across the roof. the 300mm boards worked a treat on ours and fitted perfect with no half withs. Its all a matter of taste and plastic building panels may sound tacky but once fitted they look really good and make the cabin bright.
I think we paid about 35 quid all in from the local trade plastics warehouse
