Hi guys, i am brand new to this site and also to Normans. I have just bought a Norman 20 with a BCM 1.5 Diesel engine and i think an Enfield leg. Everything seems to working as it should, the engines starts without trouble and selects gear fine. However the top speed only seems to be about 6 miles per hour which is a bit of a problem because i intend to use the boat on Loch Lomond and that is a big bit of water! Can any one tell me what speed that engine and leg combination should be able to deliver and what pitch propeller would optimize it. Thanks, Andy
The max prop size on a enfield is 14" if your on a canal the back preasure from the bow wave will stop the boat from moving faster. I would think that on open water you may get a bit more speed.
You may get up to 10mph on open water but I doubt you'd get much more than that, the bmc doesn't realy have enough power to plane so you are stuck with displacement speeds, 6-7 would be most efficient as any more and you will be going uphill.
Thank's guys. I will learn to live with it as it's a great boat and who know's may be a bigger engine someday. Glad to know it's the norm and not a problem. Thanks again! Andy
