Am getting there with the "updating" of my Norman 20, getting it back in the water after 25 years, and am nearly done with the electrics.

The Nav Lights are very corroded, and getting them working would require removal of quite a bit of interior panelling to get to the bolt heads on the inside, and I was wondering if they were a requirement for the BSS?

I've got a front floodlight and horn, but for Inland Waterway use do I need navigation lights? Or is it more of a case that if they're fitted then they must work?

BSS doesn't care about what lights you have, any wiring must be up to scratch if it's there and connected but if it's not in use and completely isolated from the electrical system it doesn't matter.

I would advise getting yourself a copy of thr BSS regulations. They are in an easy to read format.

Freely downloadable from http://www.boatsafetyscheme.com/site/2ndedBSSEssentialGuide_212.asp

Better to be safe than sorry. If you are doing lots of work, you don't want to have to do it all again!!!

Disconnected or not thats not a prob for BSS , most folks dont realise (Well inland waterways users) that a full set of Nav lights are Port * Starboard lights , mast light , & stern light

Dont see many with mast or stern lights (We are missing the stern)
