I've just done a repair to the roof on my Norman 17 with polyester resin and 450g fibreglass mat. I now need some kind of filler to finish the job off to give me a nice smooth finish. Has anybody got any advice with regards to what kind of filler would be best for the job. The website that I bought the resin and mat from has a filler but looking at the description I'm not sure if it is waterproof.
I assume you are going to paint it anyway so you could just sand down the repair. If you've got holes etc car body filler is as good as anything but only above waterline. It will need painting of course.
The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!
Thanks for that cliveshep. That's good to know that I can get away with car body filler above the water line for finishing off the repair. Yes I am going to paint it before launching the boat. The boat is going to be kept on a trailer in my garage when not in use.
I've just had a quick look on Halfords website. There seems to be lot of choice when it comes to fillers. Has anybody got previous experience using;
I use U-Pol by the gallon - literally as I use it for work and it is as good as anything. It is a professional filler used extensively by car body repairers who do not of course go to Halfords. Actually, apart from price there's not much to choose between all of them.
For underwater, go to Wests Systems for epoxy filler.

I use Hempel Epoxy filler, it'd be ideal for your below the waterline repairs and I mention it because MBFG do it. It's a 2 part filler and hardener. it's a bit tacky but you get used to it.
Thanks cliveshep I think i'll go with the u-pol filler to finish off the roof repair. Also thanks for the info cliveshep and dnme on the epoxy fillers for below the waterline repairs. Luckily I don't need any at the moment.
