A few yrs ago I replaced the bed ply in the bow (the bed base) it was nigh on 40 yrs old & a bit soft !

Not using the boat over the last season & maybe the wrong use of stain/varnish has meant that I need to replace again as it is a bit soggy (The houdini hatch has been leaking.

It was originally glassed into the hull sides , I glassed it back in last time I replaced it - But does it need to be glassed in ? I guess I'm looking at saving some time although I do have enough resin & glass to do the job (Just being a slacker !)

Adi, It is certainly stiffer glassed in and does stiffen up the hull - every little helps.

I'm surprised a b it of wet has made it "soggy" - perhaps it was the ply that was unsuitable? Did you use WBP exterior? That ought not to have failed.

The cost of boating is insignificant compared to costs of a young wife and two teenage kids!

I must say Clive that it would be my choice to glass in , although I was hoping many would say no.....

It was marine ply that I used a couple of yrs ago , problem was that the water leaked in , got under the cushions & then sweated with mould making a right old mess - its the first time we hadnt removed the cushions for the winter or used the boat for a long time,

lesson learnt
