Hi

Does anyone know, if there is a register or something where you can check to see if a boat has a current safety cert in place? Without seeing the actual docs?

Cheers Rick

Try Jim Sheads site Ricky. Each boat entry shows the most recent date of registration. Now that refers to the licence but, if it has a licence, it has to have a BSC!

But I guess there may well be boats about that do not have a licence, but do have a BSS. Beware of the data on Jim's site, it is not 100% accurate.

If you have any doubt about the validity of a certificate a quick call to the BSS office (Watford??) would clarify the status.

If I was buying, I would want to have the certificate in my hand before I parted with cash.

You haven't really said why you need the info but I'm guessing you are considering buying a boat. Anyone selling a boat should be happy to verbally give you the BSS certificate serial number which you can then verify with the BSS folks (check the boat name and description too). If they claim to have mislaid the certificate or similar then chances are they don't really have one...
