If you may remeber I had acquired a new plastic fuel tank but without the fuel line connector, so found a part and need a question answered please!!
Ok heres the part Im very very possibly getting

New question: As it has to have a tube fitted that lives inside the fuel can, and as the above fitting doesn't have the tube, I will simply get some tubing and glue it in place...however, what glue WONT be eaten by the petrol? (just petrol no oil mix)
As the fitting is at top of can I dont expect it will be immersed in fuel continually as I wont be filling 12 litres at a time, but dont want to be up a river to find the fuel line in the can comes unstuck!
or any other ideas for that bit?

Doesn't your fuel tank have a pick-up inside? If it is "fit-for-purpose" in BSS terms it should have. You cannot just "glue" a pipe on, it should be mechanically fixed in some way even if it is heated and forced over a hose end inside the tank. If it leaks even a tad your engine will not suck up fuel.
I did see your previous thread but left it to others to answer. My answer, to be frank, is to sell it on and buy a proper tank with a pick-up and get a proper snap-on connector matching your engine and fit the female ends onto your fuel line ends. So, if you have for example, a Yamaha, specify a tank with a Yamaha compatible fitting. In fact, if one tank is not going to be enough, look at buying two of them as change-over is then fast and idiot-proof. No Im afraid nothing in the fuel tank, tho a pic I was emailed (from this forum) of the setup shows a different connector to the one I linked above, but the one I linked is the 'only' one I managed to find that may do the job. Tried ringing them today to discuss but no answer.
I reckon you're right, if I speak to the shop and there's no way to hold the internal fuel line to the connector, Im just going to buy another and ebay it.
I actually just missed one on ebay as got up late, went for couple of quid only, and had fuel line attached and gauge so bargain really, if you dont count £10 p&p!!
OH well this bank holiday where I am looks overcast and too blustery for a cruise anyway!

| If any one is interested I have a 5 gallon outboard engine fuel tank which has a single baynet type of connector going FREE of charge. The connector is smaller in diameter than that fitted to some Mercury engines but could probably be replaced with one to suit your needs.Location is in the West Midlands. |
