Can anyone who has an original, cast metal Norman badge with the knight please take a pic and post it so I can see what colours it was originally painted. Thanks.

Hi - thanks. I'm sure from fading memory that it had red and blue in it but damned if I can remember exactly enough to paint it. Adi has done such sterling work on them it would be a shame to paint them in the wrong colours.
If no one has one on their boat they can take a pic of I'll have to take time out to wander around boatyards in the hope I can find an original on a boat somewhere to photograph - and trust me, I'm lazy!

I think Jones just nicked that from us! We had this very same question when Adi first started making badges. Sadly we lost a lot of the very early forum files (that's the "royal" we flinty will say!) There was definitely some red on the body armour, some of it just in the fine lining. The name itself was definitely solid blue. The colouring was not robust though so we'll be very fortunate to find the original colours. I think there was a colour brochure on Simons disc of Norman brochures but I suspect the badges had become the stick on plastic ones by then.
I'll try searching through my endless picture files when I eventually drag myself away from Norfolk!
Found this from the old file....
"Looks like the original colours were red washing on the Knight and I think black lettering infill on the Norman name. Both Tims badge & the 23 moored next to me have red washing on the Knight.
To pick out that detail I would use some thinned down red enamel wash it over the Knight & then wipe off any surplus. As for the letters would paint them to match the scheme of your boat. A couple of coats of spray lacquer should stop the Aluminium corroding in the good old british weather." |

Yeh think mine has traces of red and blues, Im down the marina at the weekend so will get some close ups! Funny but Id never really paid much attention, but after I see the remade badges etc Im now starting to cherish mine a bit more!! Hope there's enough color left to show up in the pics!

| I had a 20 in the mid 80s, colours then were red knight with blue infill of the letters if that helps at all. |

Yep thats it! A bit like mine with colors except mine are seriously faded...having seen this badge now, I will update mine with a more manly shade of a darker blue chain mail, or maybe even silver like chain mail would be I reckon!! I just cant have a turquoise knight!!

The badges on my conquest are red and blue and although tatty are original. I will be down at the boat this weekend so will take some pics prior to removing them for my dad to restore.

Be Careful when removing them ! The originals were only pressed & are now quite fragile if they've been polished over the years. Thats why there are so many without the badges anymore.

Well, thanks to Adi, these are now drying ready to fit to Meifeng and Kala Lua (A Norman 20 and a Norman 18.5 now a fast off-shore fisher with a wheelhouse).
Apologies for the quality of the pics, shot on a sheet of old plywood whilst drying.I sprayed them gold first, then picked out some red and blue in the letters to give a bit of colour. I asked everyone what colours they ought to be and then incorporated all the colours.
And yes, I know, it's the wrong blue but the only blues
I had apart from that were Yamaha blue which is a midnight blue, too dark!
