Posted - 03 Oct 2013 : 17:33:42 Hi All,
I'm just about to buy what I'm pretty sure is a Norman 20.
It wants quite a lot of work doing to it which is fine but the one thing I'm struggling with is the missing windscreen and frame.
I spoke to a very helpful man at Coverit Canopies who gave me the details of a firm called Clearview Enterprises based in Worcester as someone who had made a Norman 20 windscreen frame for him before.
I've been ringing them everyday for over a week and have left messages but all to no avail.
Does anybody know of them? Whether they are still in business or any other ideas as to where I can buy a new windscreen frame from.
Many thanks for any help offered.
This is the boat in question

Posted - 03 Nov 2013 : 20:20:51 Managed to get the frames to fit today.
Just a trial run to check that everything fitted ok and I'm happy that it does. A small amount of planing to do to get the tops of the fronts at the same level as the sides but nearly there.
I've got the rubber for the windows and also the insert and a trim to go around the top and bottom to stop water ingress.
It will have 6mm perspex windows.
It's made from 9mm marine ply and it will be secured to the boat with screws and all joints will be stuck with Sikoflex ebt and the 3 angle brackets as seen in the picture. It will be sealed, primed, undercoated and glossed the same as the rest of the boat.

They seem to do quite a few. |

Posted - 22 Oct 2013 : 20:15:29 That's the plan now as a new aluminium frame with glass is gonna be silly money. The boat is stored 20 miles away from where I work in the workshop but I'm planning to try and scribe some templates to fit nicely then make some frames up. I don't want them to protrude past the lip at the side so I've only got about 16mm to play with which isn't much. |

Posted - 22 Oct 2013 : 19:44:25 Maybe stating the obvious but if you can make your templates a good fit why not copy them in hardwood frames mortised and tenoned and rebated to take tempered glass. Looks like you have the gear and workshop to do it. Secured with screws and sikoflex should be strong enough to hold the canopy.

Posted - 21 Oct 2013 : 21:02:41 I made some templates today out of 18mm mdf using the measurements given. I cut the middles out to reduce weight and make it easier to move them around.
I must've got a couple of the angles wrong as when I placed them on the boat the top of the fronts touched but at the bottom there was a big gap. That lead me to think that the fronts were leaning too far back so the front angle of the side pieces must be wrong.
Only thing is, if I make that angle steeper it makes the 845 measurement longer
I can see this causing some serious headaches.

Posted - 20 Oct 2013 : 11:46:21 In a clockwise direction 480mm / 845mm / 415mm / 585mm
There is a rubber seal all the way around all sides of each window frame. The rubber runs down the middle between the 2 separate frames. Only problem with this is that I have not been able to identify the correct rubber to replace the original. I have re-used my original rubber but it dosent look as good as I would like...the search continues.

Posted - 16 Oct 2013 : 19:46:14 All pics received and they are a great help thanks.
I take it that the overhang/rebate on the outside of the front frame is 16mm in order to take the side frames?
Do the frames have rubber seals between them and do they have seals between the frames and the boat around the bottom?
One more question and I'm sorry to be a pain but could you possibly fill in the measurements on the drawing below.

By the way Sylk Lady looks transformed in the after pics. A job well done |

Posted - 15 Oct 2013 : 00:50:41 Bear in mind that there are at least two types of windscreen for the 20.
There's the aluminium framed one:

And the GRP one:

I might be wrong, but the dimensions look different for each one. Mine has the GRP screen, I can measure that if you need it?
