Well
Having took the bedding , tv & remnants of food stuff off the boat last weekend , we are now officially depressed at not having a boat for the winter.
Ok , the weather is still ok & the Soar is still at summer levels, but Chez gets cold easily so nights aboard are not really an option (Also the licence has expired)
But...... Next yr ..... Where to go........... 2 weeks plus a couple of days...
As Standage is still not an option (I'd do it at the risk of sinking or taking the roof off - IANM if you go thru on MOO let me know - I'll wind all the locks on the HNC for you for a trip thru the tunnel! )
So...
1) Trip down the Trent to Keadby , then across & back up the T&M
2) Ouse based adventures - Down to St Ives (Not done b4)
3) London & the Thames - Done in Dads Sewer Tube , but a pic of a Norman 22 under Tower Bridge , hmmm I fancy this one
4) T&M & Weaver thru the flashes to the 'Unnavigable bits)
5) Manchester area & Bridgewater - Not done this since a lad
Choices Choices Choices.....
Any other ideas considered

I remember Bingley , Saltaire & Skipton very well from the trip of my youth with Dad (Skipton had the most wonderful lard cook chips!)
Its a trip I would like to repeat as it wasnt the best for us (Grandad died while we were away)
To be fair looking back we had rotten luck boating as a kid - I lost my Grandad on one trip & my stepmum (Whilst aboard) on another (heading towards london). I'm surpised Dad resumed boating considering !

I've only gone as far as Gargrave on the Leeds & Liverpool. It can be a bit hairy from kids out of Leeds until you reach Rodley but the BW chaps advise on timings etc. Its a very attractive rune with many tempting stopping places such as Bingley, Saltaire and Skipton. There is a lovely long lock free stretch above Skipton.
Don't forget you also get to do one of the seven wonders of the waterways traversing Bingley 3 and 5 rise.

Must talk to dad on how long it took us on a sewer tube in the late 70's

Theres a few weeks that london would be well avoided next year, I can think of 52 of them(hate the place).

Still looking at other options ....
If we head north - Whats a realistic time to cross the pennines via l&L in a cruiser from leeds (Canalplan excluded - taking into mind we are manic cruisers !)

If you're looking to avoid Ely it really does beg the question 'why are you bothering with the Gt Ouse?'
Ely is one of the highspots, certainly of the lower river & to avoid it in favour of a tidal ditch with no water, no moorings, no headroom, no scenery, but plenty of mud is difficult to understand, even if it does save you a few hours.
Oh, & they'll need to remove the fallen tree blocking the navigation near Welney that has been there for several weeks now unless you propose using nothing bigger than a rowing boat!
